Four flights a year, two adults, one teenager
The Greek island we like is beautiful and it is also two flights from Gothenburg, and that second flight is what we keep recalculating.
Four trips a year for three people, with a connection in Athens each way, is a real number that does not appear anywhere in the price of the house. We wrote it down and then compared it against the islands with a direct summer route, and the gap over five years was large enough to change which island we were looking at. My husband did the same exercise for the winter months, when the direct routes stop and everything goes through Athens anyway.
I keep the search on https://global-property.investments/ and I have started sorting by airport before anything else, which is not how I imagined choosing a place by the sea.
Our daughter is fifteen and votes for the island with the ferry to somewhere with other teenagers on it, which is a criterion I did not expect to respect as much as I do. She has a point: the years when she still comes with us are the years we are actually buying this for.
